Profit Manager History

In 1996, Chris Barron came up with the idea for Profit Manager to measure Carson & Barron Farms cost of production. They were phasing out of pork production within the operation and beginning to focus primarily on crop production and DuPont Pioneer seed sales. At that time it was interesting to see how the farm had detailed production information within the swine operation. Conversely with crops, they simply went to the field planted corn and soybeans without any specific production or planning tools. They applied herbicides, fertilizer, lime, and seed without any field by field analysis. Once they no longer had a swine operation to manage and had time to focus on crops it became apparent through using Profit Manager (as a new home built tool) there were many possibilities with respect to managing the cost of production. We discovered instantly that information was the key. If you can measure where you are currently, you can manage your future direction. If you’re not sure where you are, how can you effectively make changes for improvement?
